Linguamatics has announced the commercial release of the new version of its flagship I2E software for answering questions by mining large document collections. I2E 3.0 enables research and business decision-makers to rapidly uncover relevant insights by extracting key facts and relationships from unstructured and semi-structured text.

I2E is an NLP-based text mining platform that is used to inform decisions and enhance productivity in applications ranging from systems biology, biomarker detection and safety in pharmaceutical R&D to key opinion leader, sentiment and competitive analysis for business intelligence. Interfaces are provided for power and less-frequent users to define and execute queries and to refine and share saved queries. Users can query a wide range of data sources, including web or intranet pages, scientific articles, internal reports, news feeds and patent documents. Queries can be combined to answer a set of questions simultaneously, e.g. for providing systematic profiles of compounds, authors or institutions. Domain knowledge in the form of taxonomies, thesauri and ontologies is plugged-in to increase accuracy and relevance of results. Results are delivered in a choice of structured formats as assertions, relationships and insights with direct access to supporting evidence, rather than lists of documents.

The latest version features a number of enhancements including the new smart query capability. Smart queries are templates that hide complexity and expose specific pre-defined options to the user, e.g. to supply particular input such as lists of genes or companies. In addition, I2E 3.0 offers more precise and powerful natural language querying to gain the required balance of precision and recall; example new features include negated and optional query items and filtering results via the new disambiguation feature. Reporting of results is also enhanced to offer a range of tabular and network views, including clustering and sorting, for rapid overview of extracted information and detection of direct and indirect relationships, plus drill-down to supporting evidence.
